Blueberry Liquid Extract
INCI - Vaccinium angustifolium Fruit Extract / Vaccinium corymbosum Fruit Extract.
What is it - Blueberry liquid extract is derived from the fruit of the blueberry plant, typically Vaccinium angustifolium if extracted from the low bush blueberry or Vaccinium corymbosum if extracted from the high bush blueberry. It is used for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and skin-conditioning properties.
pH - 4-7.
Safety limit - Typically used up to 2%.
Formulas used in - Serums, shower gels, eye creams, hair conditioners, shampoos, face masks, lotions, creams.
Formulation notes - Add to water phase, or during cool down phase in emulsions. Can use high amounts however this can increase formula cost and not provide a good sensory experience. Keep usage from 0.5-2%.
Odour - Characteristic.
Form - Liquid.
Heat sensitivity - Up to 80°C.
Solubility - Water soluble.
Natural / synthetic status - Usually natural however check additives added to extract as these may synthetic.
Contraindications - Blueberry liquid extract is generally considered safe for use. Those with allergies should take caution. Always patch test when using new ingredients.
