Cupuacu Butter
INCI - Theobroma Grandiflorum Seed Butter.
What is it - Cupuacu butter is derived from the seeds of the Cupuacu tree native to the Amazon rainforest. It is a highly effective emollient known for its excellent moisturising and skin-conditioning properties. It has a high capacity to retain water and is often used in products for dry or sensitive skin. Its rich, creamy texture makes it ideal for body butters, hair conditioners, lip balms, and moisturisers, providing long-lasting hydration and improving skin elasticity.

Safety limit - Can be used up to 100%, but typically used up to 10%.
Formulas used in - lip balms, body butters, moisturisers, hair conditioners, facial creams, hand creams, shaving creams, soaps, anti-aging products, sun care products.
Formulation notes - Cupuacu butter can be used in its raw form on the skin. Cupuacu butter can come refined or unrefined. Refined is softer, paler in colour and easier to work with. Unrefined cupuacu butter retains more nutrients however has a stronger odour, is harder and less pliable than refined cupuacu butter. Do not use over 10% butters in your formulas otherwise you will have stability issues. Cupuacu butter starts to melt at 24°C if you use over 10% the viscosity of your product will drop in hot climates.
Odour - Characteristic nutty odour.
Form - Solid butter.
Heat sensitivity - Melting point between 24-32°C.
Solubility - Oil soluble.
Natural / synthetic status - Nautral.
Contraindications - Illipe butter is generally safe for most skin types. Those with allergies to nuts should heed caution. Always do a patch test when using new ingredients.
