Grapefruit Extract
INCI - Citrus Grandis Peel Extract.
What is it - Grapefruit extract is a natural ingredient derived from the peel or pulp of the grapefruit. It is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and phytochemicals, which provide benefits such as brightening the skin, improving skin tone, and offering antimicrobial properties.
pH - 4-6.5.
Safety limit - Typically used up to 2%.
Formulas used in - Serums, peels, face masks, creams, lotions, shower gels, shampoos and other hair care products.
Formulation notes - Add to water phase, or during cool down phase in emulsions. If using powdered form ensure it is properly dispersed into water phase.
Odour - Tangy, fresh, citrus odour.
Form - Powder or liquid.
Solubility - Water soluble.
Natural / synthetic status - Usually natural however check additives added to extract as these may synthetic.
Contraindications - Grapefruit extract can cause skin irritation in some individuals, particularly those with sensitive skin. It may also increase photosensitivity, making the skin more susceptible to sunburn when exposed to UV rays. It is important to use a broad spectrum sun screen. People with citrus allergies should avoid using products containing grapefruit extract. Always conduct a patch test when using new ingredients.
