Green Tea Extract

INCI - Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract.


What is it - Commonly know as green tea extract is a plant-based ingredient known for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and skin-soothing properties. It helps protect the skin from oxidative stress, reduces inflammation, and can be used to calm irritated or sensitive skin.


pH - 4-7.


Safety limit - Typically used up to 2%.



Formulas used in - Moisturisers, serums, anti-aging creams, sunscreens, facial cleansers, shampoos, conditioners, eye creams, body lotions, and facial masks.


Formulation notes - Add during cool down phase in emulsions if using liquid form. If using powder form solubilise in suitable solvent - check with individual supplier as some grades of green tea extract won't fully solubilise with water. Check under section 9 of safety data sheet to see solubility of a particular grade.


Odour - Mild grassy, herby odour.


Form - Liquid or powder.


Heat sensitivity - Up to 70°C.


Solubility - Water soluble, however if in powder form check with supplier.


Natural / synthetic status - Natural usually however check additives added to extract as these may synthetic.


Contraindications - Green tea extract is generally considered safe for most skin types. Always conduct a patch test when using new ingredients.
