Niacinamide

INCI - Niacinamide.


What is it - Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 an active commonly used in skincare for its ability to minimise pores, even the skin tone, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and strengthen the skin barrier.


pH - Final ph of formulas should be in between 5-7.


Safety limit - Up to 10%.


Formulas used in - Serums, moisturisers, toners, acne treatments, eye creams, sunscreens, and cleansers.


Formulation notes - Add to the water phase however ensure the temp is below 70°C to avoid degradation. If making an emulsion add to cool down phase.


Odour - None.


Form - Powder.


Heat sensitivity - Up to 70°C.


Solubility - Water soluble.


Natural / synthetic status - It is naturally occurring, however for use in cosmetics it is generally synthetically produced.


Contraindications - It can be irritating to the skin especially when used at higher percentages. Use at 5% and below to reduce the potential of skin irritation.
