Rosemary Extract

INCI - Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Extract.


What is it - Rosmarinus officinalis Leaf Extract, commonly known as rosemary leaf extract, is a botanical ingredient used in cosmetic formulations for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. It helps protect the skin and product from oxidative damage, supports skin clarity, and can soothe irritation.


pH - Formulas should be in-between 4.5-7.


Safety limit - Typically used from 0.1% to 0.2.


Formulas used in - Facial cleansers, toners, moisturisers, shampoos, conditioners, serums, sunscreens, deodorants, and anti-acne treatments.


Formulation notes - Add during the cool down phase in emulsions. Please be mindful that rosemary leaf extract can have a strong smell that you might not want for your finished formula, in which case consider using tocopherol as an alternative.


Odour - Herbal, woody odour.


Form - Liquid.


Heat sensitivity - Up to 40°C.


Solubility - Oil soluble.


Natural / synthetic status - Naturally derived.


Contraindications - Rosmarinus officinalis Leaf Extract is usually safe in cosmetics, but it can sometimes cause skin irritation, especially for people with sensitive skin or rosemary allergies. It should be used carefully during pregnancy, especially in high amounts. It’s a good idea to do a patch test before using products with it.
