Tucuma Butter

INCI - Astrocaryum Tucuma Seed Butter.


What is it - Tucuma butter is derived from the seeds of Tucuma fruit native to the Amazon rainforest. It is is a rich, emollient butter known for its nourishing and moisturising properties. It is high in essential fatty acids and vitamin A, making it ideal for products designed to hydrate, restore elasticity, and improve the overall texture of skin and hair.


pH - N/A.


Safety limit - Can be used up to 100%, but typically used up to 10%.


Formulation notes - Tucuma butter can be used in its raw form on the skin. Tucuma butter can come refined or unrefined. Refined is softer, paler in colour and easier to work with. Unrefined tucuma butter retains more nutrients however has a stronger odour, is harder and less pliable than refined tucuma butter. Do not use over 10% butters in your formulas otherwise you will have stability issues. Tucuma butter starts to melt at 30°C if you use over 10% the viscosity of your product will drop in hot climates.


Odour - Mild nutty odour.


Form - Solid butter.


Heat sensitivity - Melting point between 30–35°C.


Solubility - Oil soluble.


Natural / synthetic status - Natural.


Contraindications - Tucuma butter is generally safe for most skin types. Those with allergies to nuts should heed caution. Always do a patch test when using new ingredients.
