Vitamin A

INCI - Retinyl Palmitate


What is it - Vitamin A commonly known as retinol is an active used in skincare for its cell regeneration and anti acne properties.


pH - Most effective in products with a ph ranging 6-7.


Safety limit - 0.3%.


Formulas used in - Serums, creams.


Formulation notes - Vitamin A comes in different forms and under different INCIs. Please note different forms of vitamin A will behave differently in formulas. Retinyl Palmitate and Retinyl Acetate are recognised as two of the most stable forms of vitamin A due to their esterified structure, which protects against oxidation. Please check specific safety data sheets for information on how to safely formulate with it.


Odour - Mild odour.


Form - Powder or liquid form.


Heat sensitivity - up to 40°C.


Solubility - Insoluble in water, soluble in vegetables oils.


Natural / synthetic status - Vitamin A can be found naturally in animals however vitamin A used for cosmetic purposes is generally synthetically produced.


Contraindications - Do not use in conjunction with AHAs such as glycolic acid or vitamin C as this will be too irritating to the skin.
