Vitamin B5 (Panthenol)
INCI - Panthenol.
What is it - Panthenol is a form of Vitamin B5 it is a humectant, which helps the skin retain moisture. It’s commonly used for its soothing properties products, especially in formulas with sensitising actives such as retinol, to help reduce irritation.
pH - Stable over a wide pH range 3-7.
Safety limit - Recommended usage up to 5%.
Formulas used in - Serums, lotions, creams, eye creams, hair products.
Formulation notes - Add during the cool down phase in emulsions, add during water phase in water based products such as serums and shampoos. If in gel form may need to warm water to help it solubilise.
Odour - Odourless.
Form - Liquid, powder or gel.
Heat sensitivity - Up to 70°C.
Solubility - Water soluble.
Natural / synthetic status - Naturally occurring however it is generally synthetically produced for cosmetic use.
Contraindications - No known contraindications, generally considered safe for all skin types.
